How to Keep Your Car's Tires in Good Condition

Checking your car's tires for proper tread depth and air pressure should be part of a regular maintenance regimen. The people at Napleton's Schaumburg Mazda want to teach you how to determine if your tires are safe to drive on. To check for proper tire depth, put a coin into one of the tread grooves.

If you can see the president's head, the tire does not have sufficient tread depth. To check the tire's air pressure, stick a manual or digital gauge into the valve stem and hold it there for several seconds. If the PSI number is lower than what the manufacturer recommends, it's a good idea to add more air.

It is important not to put too much air in your tires. That can result in lower gas mileage as well as an increased risk that the tire will pop while driving on the roads or highways.
