For Schaumburg Mazda, we can trace our Mazda love back in time through some pretty fantastic times in car history. But the 1989 MX-5 Miata stands head-and-shoulders above the rest as a timeless classic, which reset the bar for small sports cars - and has captivated us every model year since then. And while we certainly think that the new MX-5 Miata is a wonderful car, we were pretty excited to hear the announcement from the automaker that they're planning on going back to basics for the 2014 model.
And why not? It was one heck of a car. Or, as editors at Motor Trend say, the original "is a car that's pleasing for everybody from secretaries to off-duty race-car drivers. From superficial first impressions to deep investigation, the Miata stands up to any scrutiny."1
Not only will the 2014 Miata get a slim down (from 2,410-lbs to 2,200-lbs), the 1.3-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with Mazda SkyActive technology will get a fuel-economy boost. And how about a variety of Miata models to please a wide range of drivers? From comfort to power, the new Miata is sure to please. Hirotaka Kanazawa, MX-5 Development Boss confirms, "It will be lightweight and the cost will be lightweight too. It will be easy to handle and fun to drive."2
Okay, Mazda, bring it on. We can't imagine loving anything more than the original MX-5, but we're willing to give it a try. In the meantime, stop in and see us here at Schaumburg Mazda, 110 W Golf Rd Schaumburg, IL 60195 and take any of the fun and fuel-efficient new Mazda models for a spin.
