Mazda Closes Out RX-8 Production With Special Edition

Late this month, lucky drivers in Japan will be able to get themselves behind the wheel of the special edition Mazda RX-8 Spirit R. It will, in fact, be the last edition of the automaker's rotary sports model, and they're only planning to make 1,000 of them. Production is slated to end in June of 2012, but Schaumburg Mazda is sure that even with a few months on the market, it will make quite the statement.

The sharp-looking car will get special edition 18-inch bronze alloy wheels to complement any of the three available colors (Aluminum Metallic, Sparking Black Mica, and Crystal White Pearl Mica). Inside the car will be just as luxurious, with specially-made leather RECARO SPIRIT R bucket seats accented with red stitching. As far as under the hood, of course Mazda will include a sport-tuned transmission and larger brakes. Needless to say, we're expecting the last run of the RX-8 to be just as impressive as its predecessors, if not more so.

Even though it's in its last run in this model, the spirit of the rotary engine will live on. According to Mazda President and CEO, Takashi Yamanouchi, who says, "Although RX-8 production is ending, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda and Mazda remains committed to its ongoing development."1

Other ongoing developments we're excited to watch unfold include new technologies like the high-tensile steel that will be released in the Mazda CX-5 crossover. That said, stayed tuned with Schaumburg Mazda, 110 W Golf Rd Schaumburg, IL 60195, for more news and updates from the automaker.
